The Tainos were the ancient inhabitants of the territory in which the Dominican Republic now sits. A peaceful people who lived in harmony with the environment and whose deities, spirits and forces of nature designated with the word CEMI.
The Cemis were represented by pieces of pottery, wood, or cotton and by the drawings that the Bohemians, or priests, engraved on the deepest walls of their sacred caves.
A Cemi is, therefore, the representation of the invisible forces that push us from ancient times to face life, a spirit that every participant of the CEMI ROUTE will have to host in his heart to complete the five stages and obtain the title of CEMI DE HONOR that will accredit him as finisher of the best Mountain Bike race in the Caribbean.
Through jungle valleys, mountains of palm forests, untouched beaches, rivers of warm waters, endless expanses of sugar cane, rice paddies, and dreamlike landscapes, the runners of the CEMI ROUTE will have the opportunity to put themselves to a big challenge and to know the true heart of the Dominican Republic: the Taino legacy that inhabits the inhabitants of this Caribbean spot.
